BRAMPTON RUGBY CLUB PREPARES FOR NEW SEASON
18th March 2008
(From the Brampton Guardian Newspaper)

The
Brampton Rugby Club, under the leadership of new President Kent
Tumber and his enthusiastic Executive Committee, is in the
process of planning for another busy season in the Ontario Rugby
Union’s powerful and very demanding Marshall Premier Leagues.
Once again it is the Club's intention to field three senior
men’s teams, a senior women’s team, together with boy’s junior
programs at U21, U18, U16 and Mini rugby for boys and girls.
There will also be a junior women’s category.
Such
a program is a huge task for a
predominately amateur sport. Once again the demand on the
volunteers, administrators and coaches will be enormous and Kent
Tumber is busy putting together detailed short and long term
plans to ensure that the “Beavers” one of the Province’s oldest
rugby clubs, maintains the level of growth that has been
required over the last decade, to remain one of Canada’s leading
Rugby Clubs.
The
new President has emphasized that the Rugby Club is a non-profit
organization with a wonderful sports facility and is determined
to continue with the aim to provide the opportunity to develop
the game at all ages based on the true meaning of team-work,
unity and making lifetime friendships through sport.
The
first key date in the lead up to the new season will be the Club
Registration Day on Saturday April 5th for players of
all ages and both genders. A program of events will be scheduled
and announced shortly. Please mark this date in your calendar
with a provisional starting time of 1:00pm. This event is an
opportunity for players, volunteers in many categories such as
managers, coaches, cooks, grounds men etc., to meet in a
sporting and social environment and to see first hand the great
facilities that Brampton Rugby Club has to offer. The Club
offers a rental schedule throughout the year for Weddings,
Anniversaries, Birthdays and Works events. The Registration Day
offers an opportunity for potential sponsors to visit the
clubhouse and see the many avenues for arranging sponsorship
agreements, to the financial benefit of both parties.
Ruth
Blair, the new Fixture Secretary and Facilities Manager, is in
the process of finalizing the Exhibition Season games to be
played in April. The opening league fixture on May 10th
will be followed that evening by the induction of past players
and administrators into the club’s Hall of Fame which is now an
annual event. Ruth has also confirmed that Brampton will once
again be the venue for a number of overseas visiting teams among
who are Welsh teams Kenfig Hill Rugby Club and Pencoed
Comprehensive School. Ruth herself comes from a great rugby
family. Her mother Joanne is a former President of the Brampton
Rugby Club and her late father Sam Blair was a junior director
and one of the key people in the development of junior rugby in
the province of Ontario.
