BRAMPTON'S RYAN SMITH SCORES TRY IN MONTAUBAN VICTORY OVER PEDOVA 14 JAN 07

 

Playing at their home stadium  at Sapiac, Montauban Tarn-et-Garonne (MTG) defeated Petrarca Padoue by 19 - 7 in the Europeaqn Challenge Cup. Ryan Smith, playing at fly half scored a try in the victory.
 
With soft rain and slippery conditions, the Montauban team move ahead of Pedova in the European Challenge Cup rankings, much to the delight of the approximately 4,000 fans at the game. .

 

Playing against a strong Italian team, Montauban had to work hard to win this victory, scoring three tries.  The Italians showed that they have plenty of pride and hard work in this match, but they could never really match Montauban. As early as the 8 minute mark, the French team scored from the back row through Immelmann, which Duffau converted 7 - 0.

 

The Italians came back and were awarded a penalty try at 25 minutes, converted by Little. Montauban prop Balan received a yellow card. This did not seem to slow down the frenchmen as 8 minutes later, Ryan Smith cut through to score. The conversion failed. 12 - 7. This remained the score at the half..
 

In the second period, Montauban captain Albert scored from the centre, and the try was converted by Duffau 19 - 7. This remained the final score.

 

The match saw a serious jaw injury to full back Mickael Etcheverria, a worrying event as in two weeks, the Montauban side faces one of their toughest challenges of the season in a Top 14 match against Albi.
