JORDAN WILSON-ROSS RECEIVES SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
EXPOSURE 25th October 2007
by Doug Crosse Rugby Canada
Jordan Wilson-Ross is only 18 but already his
face has been spotted in the crowd. Jordan Wilson-Ross, a fullback for
Ontario and Canada's Under-19 teams has been featured in the October
15th edition of Sports Illustrated in the popular 'Faces in the
Crowd' section that highlights young and old amateur athletes from
around North America.

The two-sport athlete was featured for his
efforts in playing as a running back for Mississauga of the Ontario
Varsity Football League, rushing for 170 yards in the title match. This
was after he had flown in from Newfoundland for the day, taking a break
from the Rugby Canada National Championships in St. John's,
Newfoundland.
Wilson-Ross then celebrated the title briefly,
and was on an evening flight back to St. John's to play in the gold
medal game for Ontario against British Columbia. Ontario lost that
match, but not without some great runs from Wilson-Ross, who is a
speedy, hard-to-tackle fullback.
He was in Victoria for a trial camp with the
Canadian Under-20 Rugby team this past weekend, and says being featured
in the magazine has garnered him a lot of interest. "People have been
asking a lot about it," said the affable Alliston, Ontario native. "It's
great. I loved it and a big part of my life so far. You don't really see
your face in a magazine every day, especially Sports Illustrated."
He says it was his Mississauga football team that
wrote to SI and urged them to feature him in an upcoming
issue."From what I know it was my coaches from football that sent it
in," he explained. "They sent my picture in and that's how I got my face
in Sports Illustrated."
As for which sport he will be leaning towards as
he progresses through university and beyond, he is not 100 per cent
sure, but Rugby seems to be gaining the edge. "I love Rugby; I love
traveling. For me it has taken me places all around the world so that is
the best part of Rugby," he says.
He may be moving to Victoria in January in order to be closer to
national team training camps and also to attend the University of
Victoria. |
