TWO BRFC PLAYERS SELECTED FOR SAN DIEGO CAMP & TOURNAMENT  9th March 2008

Two Brampton Under 20 players, Sonya Kuziw and Jenna Livingston, have been selected to  the Canada Under-20 training camp ahead of the San Diego Surfers Champagne Classic tournament commencing March 8th, 2008. Women's Head Coach John Coumbe-Lilley and his staff have named 48 athletes in total, and they will depart on March 4th to arrive in San Diego for a few days of training and preparation leading up to the competition.

The camp and competition is a selection event at which Coumbe-Lilley and his staff will have the opportunity to evaluate this particular pool of players, keeping in mind this summer’s Nations Cup to be held on home soil July 10th – 20th. “The purpose of the camp is to assess the U20 pool of player and determine our capability to compete with the countries in the Nations Cup and begin the process of preparing our approach to the tournament based on the talent of our pool,” Coumbe-Lilley explains.

The Surfers Champagne Classic following the three-day training camp will provide a test for players in real game settings as players work to earn a spot and represent Canada in four months time.

“I look forward to the enthusiasm of playing the game and being part of the national program, in addition to executing the basic skills and coaching players that love to accept the challenges top level rugby presents,” added Coumbe-Lilley.

When asked to describe the ideal player at the U20 age group, Coumbe-Lilley listed physical and mental readiness, playing with high levels of consistency at the highest intensity possible for the entire match and the ability to compete with the best players in the tournament.

He added: “Our players must learn, adapt and perform quickly and effectively exploit the opportunities in the game and they should maintain their composure and use every bit of their talent and off of the field.”

The athletes who demonstrate such attributes will undoubtedly have enormous impact on the U20 international stage, as the program assures it is these types of players that will lead Canada to success at the 2008 Nations Cup.
