BRAMPTON WOMEN OPEN SEASON ON HIGH NOTE by Brian
Kelly 11th May 2008
This past Saturday 10th May 2008,
was the first chance for our female Beavers to right the wrong
that was last season. We had many hopes and ambitions for last
season that did not come to fruition. As I expected, this season
we are on the road to achieve our goals.
On Saturday,
the Women won
20-5. Tries were scored by Heather
McRobb, Darlene Downey and two tries by Jenna Livingston. We
started off a little slowly in the first half, but came on
strong to finish the game hard. The team was well led by our
captains Bru and Dar.
As usual, we still have a few
things to work on at practice, but for the first game of the
season, this is a great building block for what I am convinced
will be a very successful season. Outstanding runs by Bru and
some monstrous hits by Chalia, were a great forwards complement
to a newly formed back line that boasts some past and present
National Team players like Jules and Mary Jane. I’m looking for
them to gain more continuity for the team and with this will
come more success as the season progresses.
Over the
years, I think Brampton's Women's team has acquired a reputation
as a
forwards oriented team and I have
seen this at practice. However, as you saw in our last game, and
as I have seen again at practice, and as you will see in our
next game, our backs are working very hard at letting other
teams know that we are now a multi-dimensional team. If they
focus on one aspect of our team's play, we are going to hurt
them with another.
I’d like to thank everyone who came
out to watch us and to support the Brampton Club as a whole.
Please, please keep up the fan support as it goes a long way in
encouraging us throughout our season. Anyone who was not there,
missed out on a great time and some great Rugby.
