JUNIOR BOYS U-16: DIRECTIONS TO BRANTFORD FOR SATURDAY JULY 24th Directions from the 403: - 403 to Brantford - Exit at Wayne Gretzky Parkway - Turn right onto Wayne Gretzky Parkway - At the end of Wayne Gretzky Parkway is Powerline Road - Turn right onto Powerline Road - Travel approximately 4 Km’s until a ninety degree bend to the left - At the bend go straight onto the gravel road, Harlequin Rugby Grounds on your right End at 22 Powerline Road, Brantford ON Directions from the 401: - 401 West - Take exit 282 to Hespler Rd / Hwy 24 south. - Follow Hwy 24 south all the way to Brantford. - Turn left (east) on Powerline Rd. and follow it past the train tracks. - At the 90 degree bend in the road, go straight (gravel road). - The entrance to the fields will be on your right. JUNIOR BOYS U-16: BEAVERS WIN THRILLER VS. HIGHLAND SATURDAY JULY 10th This past Saturday July 10th, the Under 16 Boys hosted the Fergus Highlanders in their 3rd and final home game of the season. The Beaver's were coming in desperate for their first win of the season, and were in tough against the 2nd place Highlanders. Brampton sent a message early with some hard tackling that put Fergus on the back foot. Christian Jarchow put the Beavers on the board early after some expert passing and support play by Jacob MaCree and Stephen Bartlett. Highland responded quickly and charged down deep into Brampton's half. The Beavers bent but didn't break, and Highland was simply unable to cope with relentless Beaver tackling. Brampton capitalized on a key Fergus knock-ons as rookie winger Ian Eddy touched down in Highlands try zone for the second Brampton try. Score at Half was Brampton 10 Fergus 0 With only half an hour remaining in the game, Brampton could taste victory. However Fergus was not out of it yet. Much of the second half was spent within Brampton's 22 metre line and some costly Brampton penalties allowed the Highlanders to score two quick tries to tie the game.The Beavers weren't phased and once again moved the ball down the field. Flyhalf Shawn Copeland put the Beavers back on top with a clever try under the posts. Michael Fuller, a backup kicker, put a clutch kick through the uprights to put the score at 17-10. With only 5 minutes left, Fergus were desperate to tie the game. With a penalty just inside the Brampton half, the Fergus flyhalf was able to make a key kick right to his winger who scored in the corner. A missed convert allowed Brampton to hang on to the lead, and the win. Final Score Brampton 17 Fergus 15 Brampton will look to improve its record to 2-3 this coming Saturday with a match at Stratford. |
JUNIOR BOYS U-16: BOYS SUFFER ANOTHER TOUGH LOSS vs. MISSISSAUGA JUNE 19th This past Saturday June 19th, the under 16 boys played their second game of the season at Mississauga. Facing a very skilled and well balanced Blues side, the under 16 Beavers were in tough to bounce back from their week one loss. The teams went try for try throughout the majority of the match. The Beavers held off the relentless Blues attack with strong rucking and great defensive lineout steals by Nick Miller. However missed tackles led to opportunisitc tries by Mississauga. Notable performances were had by centres Tanner DeRocha and Christian Jarchow, scrum half Ian Eddy and flanker Mike Fuller. Fuller scored all but one fo the teams tries with Shawn Copeland hitting converts despite a badly bruised ankle. Final: Blue 41-29 Beavers The Beavers will look to get the first win of the season this Saturday vs. Oakville Crusaders at home. |
JUNIOR BOYS U-16: OPEN SEASON WITH CLOSE LOSS vs. OAKVILLE CRU SATURDAY JUNE 12th The U16 Beavers opened their 2010 regular season at the Beaver Dam on Saturday. Playing an always talented Oakville Crusaders team, the Beavers played hard and showed promise for the coming months. Oakville opened the scoring early after some strong running in the centres. However the Beavers quickly stormed back and after some good phase play responded with a try in the corner by Mike Boyle and conversion by Shawn Copeland. The Beavers maintained momentum and spent the majority of the first 30mins in Oakvilles half resulting in two more tries by Mike Fuller. The score was 17-7 after the referee's half time whistle. Oakville came out strong in the second half and showed they weren't out of the game with a quick try. Brampton held their line throughout the second half holding off a relentless Crusaders attack. The Beavers made a number of goal line stops to hold the lead. However just as the game reached full time, Oakville were able to squeak in a quick try. The final was Oakville 21 Brampton 17. Brampton will look to bounce back next week with a match against the Mississauga Blues in Mississauga. |

When: Sunday June 13th 2010 • registrations start at 9:00 am and the tryouts will be from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm • fee $30.00 fee increased due to insurance cost • players will get a Rugby Ontario t shirt • players must wear their school rugby jerseys and use mouth guards while on the field • players who have previously played for Ontario are requested to not wear Ontario jerseys, shorts or socks • each player must bring his own water bottle and have Canada Health Card information available **Please note - the only U14 regional tryout site will be Fletcher’s Fields ** CLICK HERE for a Try-out forms and check the Rugby Ontario website for more information.
