JUNIOR BOYS U-18: BEAVERS MAINTAIN PERFECT RECORD VS. OAKVILLE THURSDAY JULY 15th

On Thursday evening, the Under 18 boys played their home opener against cross town rivals Oakville Crusaders. This was Brampton's toughest test thus far, but the Beavers were coming in determined to get their 3rd win of the season. Brampton spent much of the first half on the back foot as a very skilled Oakville offense was able to exploit holes and overlaps in Brampton's defense. Oakville quickly put up the first try of the game. With hard rucking and quick play from the break down, Oakville threatened to put a second try over Brampton's line. But after a few opportunistic breakouts by flyhalf Alex Pennels and centre Brendan Mactavish, the Beavers rekindled their confidence. Winger Gilbert Stewart finally got the Beavers on the board after several phases within Oakville's 22 with Mactavish hitting the convert. Michael Fresco finished off an excellent run and scored a try in the corner just before half.

Score at half 12-5

After a strong finish to the first half, Brampton could not be stopped in the second. Hard and intense tackling forced numerous Oakville mistakes.Jessie Mcknight and Mactavish scored in the second half. Oakville was able to respond with only one try, bringing the final score to 22-10.Notable performances were had by rookie scrum half Jamie Corbette and centre Steven Koshman. Brampton will try for a fourth straight win next Thursday at home vs. Toronto Dragons.

Final Score Brampton 22 Oakville 10

JUNIOR BOYS U-18: BEAVERS NOTCH SOLID WIN VS. MISSISSAUGA BLUES WEDNESDAY JULY 7th

This past Wednesday July 7th, the U18 Beavers traveled to Mississauga to take on the Blues in their second regular season match. Brampton set the defensive tone quick with and early goal line stance and prevented several Mississauga attempts at goal. Brampton charged back down the field and some quality support play quickly led to a try by Brendan "MacAttack" Mactavish. Brampton continued the relentless attack, and managed another try by Warren Snowdon and conversion by MacTavish.

Score at half was 12-5

With only a 7 point lead after 30 minutes of play, the Blues were looking to make a quick comeback. The majority of the second half was spent within Brampton's 22 where the beavers made many timely goal line stands. Solid play in the forwards led to key stolen scrums and lineouts that kept the score at 12-5. Brampton made quick work of the Blues when they finally managed to move the ball out of their end. Michael Fresco charged through the Blues defense late in the second half to finish off a pristine example of Beavers champagne rugby. Gilbert Stewart secured the bonus point by going for the glory on the last play of the game.

Final Score Beavers 22 Blues 5

Brampton U18 boys will have their home opener next Thursday July 15th vs. Oakville Crusaders.
