Last night the Mighty U18 Beavers took on the Aging Heroes in a match that was one the finest Ginger Cup competitions the Beaver Dam has seen in years.
For the Heroes many old faces returned to the club to dawn the Maroon and White Hoops and the BRFC U18’s was a squad filled with boundless energy.
It is not to be considered the most defensive battles, as this high scoring affair was filled will lots of open field running and flowing rugby. Many defensive moves were on display...moves such as the “Atta Boy”, the “Man that kid is fast” and the ever popular the “Turnstile” all perfected by the Heroes.
The game when back and forth, with each team trading tries, the half time score was 15-14 in favour of the Heroes, however the U18 came out strong in the second half and scored a quick try due to one of the Heroes being ”All Thumbs” of the kickoff...The U18’s then scored another, then another...however the Heroes answered the call and mounted a come back.
A come back that was capped with a try and a self converted drop goal by Uncle James Vickery to pull the Heroes ahead by a score of 42-36.
The U18’s are to be commended on their style of play and their skills, which will clearly set them up for a great season, which starts tonight (June 30th) vs. the Dragons away at Eglinton Flats.
Mark your calendars as the Heroes will once again defend the Ginger Cup vs. BRFC U20’s on Thursday July 29th.
Thank you to all involved it was a great club night bringing the juniors and the seniors together.
