NEW FOR THE 2010 SEASON BRFC WILL FIELD A GIRLS U15 SIDE The Brampton Rugby Club annouces the addition of a third level of rugby to our Women's Program. We currently field a 1st & 2nd team in the Ontario Women's League (OWL) and an under 18 (U18) team in the Toronto Rugby Union (TRU). For 2010 the club will enter a team in the second year Ontario under 15 (U15) league. The league will be run as a festival format on Sunday's from June to September. There are 7 dates in total with the first Sunday, June 20th being promoted as an All Comers event, pre-season/ exhibition. The format for this league is 15-a-side matches; 20 minute halves, 2 games per day, with rotating substitution and no player being allowed to play more than 80 minutes per day. The hope is to have 6 sides per day playing on 2 pitches. Some clubs do not bring full sides, or enough to make the majority of a team, will be recruited to play for the larger clubs. These alliances may develop more permanency as the season rolls on. Currently the schedule is as follows: |
||
| DATE | HOST | LOCATION |
| June 20 | Saracens | Fletcher's Fields |
| June 27 | Oakville | Crusader's Park |
| July 11 | Peterborough | Peterborough |
| July 25 | TBD | TBD |
| August 8 | TBD | TBD |
| August 25 | TBD | TBD (likely Brampton) |
| September 12 | ORU | Fletcher's Fields |
The philosophy of this league is to provide a closer age group level of competition for girls born 1995/96/97 an later. In the past players in this age group would have to compete for playing time with girls up to 3 years older on the U18 team. Some girls would simply avoid playing until they became older. Playing time was limited and concerns for safety resulted in many of these players playing positions that were outside the high contact areas of the game. Our team in Brampton will comprise primarily grade 9 players, as this is our target recruiting group. The members of the team will practice with and learn the skills from the older girls, along with the coaches of the entire Women's program, then separate for contact according to their physical abilities. Players can attend any practice on Monday or Thursday evenings from 6-8:30, but the expectation is a full commitment to thier high school program until it is done. |
