BEFORE RETURNING TO CANADA
7th May 2008 From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
This has not been an easy
choice for me, says Ryan Smith, Canada's international back, "It
has become increasingly difficult to live for such long periods
away from my wife and family, who are now back in Canada." Ryan
has decided not top renew his contract with Montauban after the
season's end.

RYAN SMITH SUBS
IN AT FULL BACK IN MONTAUBAN LOSS TO DAX
3rd May 2008
From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
The temperature was 30
degrees at kickoff time for this match. Dax was quick to lay
claim to their points, but every time Antoine Vignau kicked a
penalty, Montauban's Fortassin replied with one of his own. The
score was 6 - 6 after the first half hour. Montauban used a new lineout effectively to win a good supply of
ball, but the defensive systems of both teams dominated any
attacking chances, until 5 minutes from the half. Then, Dax's
Laurent Diaz scored though the middle, followed by an
interception & try by .

RYAN SMITH HELPS
MONTAUBAN DEFEAT ALBI
3rd March
2008
From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
Ryan Smith
came off the bench and on the wing, as Montauban played this
match against Albi perfectly. They timed their victory as the
first half of the Top 14 Championship of France comes to a
conclusion. Also, they took their revenge for last
season's when Albi defeated them twice. Montauban defeated Albi
by 25 to 15. The score at the half was 10 to 9. The victory is
worth all the more with a bonus offensive point.

RYAN SMITH SCORES IN T14
LOSING CAUSE vs CLERMONT 29th January
2008
From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
Ryan Smith scored a try at
22 minutes on Saturday as Montauban ran out of gas playing
against Clermont in France's T 14 play. The final score
was 40 - 13, after Montauban trailed only 12 - 10 at the half.
Canadian Jamie Cudmore was playing for Clermont.
The match lasted about twenty minutes too long for Montauban.
Coach Laurent Travers said," The score really doesn't reflect
the game we played against Clermont. However, sometimes we saw
the difference between a mid (9th place) and top of the table
(3rd place) team,

RYAN SMITH AT FLY HALF
IN T14 LOSS TO BAYONNE IN 18th
February 2008
From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
Brampton's Ryan Smith
started and finished the game at fly half for Montauban in their
25 - 18 loss at Bayonne last weekend. The half-time score was 16
- 12, and Montauban takes a bonus point to stay in the mid T14
League tables.
In the game, Montauban won
plenty of ball, but was not able to capitalize on it. However,
Montauban did score two glorious tries, the first on an
excellent counter-attack which was finished off by centre Yoann
Audrin, and the second when captain Marc Raynaud powered
over. Unfortunately, the Basques had more success with the boot
than Montauban, and the veteran captain Richard Dourthe kicked
six of six penalties and a conversion.

RYAN SMITH SELECED FOR
MONTAUBAN SQUAD TO PLAY BAYONNE 15th February 2008
From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
Despite the injuries to
Rumanian prop Bogdan Balan, three quarter Matthew Clarkin
(knee), Tongan winger Séti Kiolé (ankle) and Benjamin Sa ( not
yet at match fitness); the Montauban coaches have an
embarrassment of riches to choose from for their match tomorrow
at Bayonne. Among them is BRFC's Ryan Smith
Montauban will leave for
Bayonne in the Basque country with a squad of 25 players.
Notably, we see the return of several players who were
unavailable for last week's loss at home with Stade Toulousain.
Props Laurent Delboulbès and Pascal Peyron both return, second
row Rowan Frost is back and in the backs Jean-Philippe Viard and
Johan Dalla-Riva are ready.

Montauban lost to Stade Toulousain by 12 - 16. The half time
score was 6 - 8. Montauban scored three penalty goals at 15, 36
and 65 minutes, and a drop goal to Stade Toulousain's two tries

RYAN SMITH IN SQUAD FOR
TEAM TO PLAY STADE TOULOUSAIN 8th February 2008
Twenty-three years
drought From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
The last time Montauban
defeated the players of Stade Toulousain in an official match,
was on Sunday 3rd February 1985. Twenty three years ago. In
1985, telephone numbers didn't need an area code and no one had
foreseen cell phones. On this day, the team was coached by Louis
Blanc and won the match 16 - 12. It was a victory gained, in my
estimation, by an heroic spirit of sacrifice throughout the
game, and especially in the last few minutes of play.

RYAN SMITH COMNES OFF
BENCH IN MONTAUBAN'S t 14 LOSS TO PERPIGNAN
4th February 2008 From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
In more than a century of
playing matches, Montauban have only ever won 2 victories away
against Perpignan, in 1909 and 2006. Ryan Smith came off the
bench at 74 minutes, but the match was already lost, by 23 -- 3.
The half time score was 10 - 3, with MTG's points coming from a
Fauque drop goal at 11 minutes. From the first yellow card awarded against MTG's
Benjamin Sa, there were consequences before the end of the half.
The Green and Blacks made numerous handling errors which stopped
them from properly testing a Catalan side which has a desperate
need to score some points.

RYAN SMITH HELPS
MONTAUBAN SQUEAK PAST DAX IN T14 ACTION
29th January 2008
From Montauban-Tarn-et
Garonne website
"You need to know how to
win this kind of match, where the two teams were so well
matched," winger Jean-Emmanuel Cassin explained in the
Montauban changing room. Montauban won this squeaker 12 - 11
having been 3 to 5 down at the half. Ryan Smith played the full
game in the centres."Montauban were more
realistic than we were," confided Dax coach Jérôme Daret. Dax dominated the first
half of the game. They only scored one try, from Lievremont at
22 minutes, and two penalties in the second half from Hore.
However, they had a pushover try attempt, following a series of
5 metre scrums, and a drive by their hooker Yves Pedrosa which
was ruled "held up" by the Video judge.

RYAN SMITH IN SQUAD: BIG MENTAL TEST FOR PACK
FACING DAX
25th July 2008
(From MTG Website)
Ryan Smith is selected to the squad which will
play the T 14 match against Dax. If there is going to be one day when
the Montauban pack needs to be well-motivated it is certainly tomorrow,
at home at 5:30pm on the Sapiac pitch. Since Stade Francais defeated Dax 22 - 19 after
being destroyed in the scrums, people talked only about Dax's props
becoming internationals. Many see Julien Brugnaut (right prop, 26 years
old, 1m83, 120 kgs) and Renaud Boyoud (left prop, 27 years old, 1m88,
110kgs) pressing their claims for

CANADIANS PYKE & RYAN SMITH IN MONTAUBAN SQUAD VS WORCESTER
(From MTG Website)
11th January 2008
It is no secret that Montauban's major
priority is the Top 14 Championship. However, in the last two
matches of the European Challenge Cup, Montauban is still in the
qualification race for the quarter finals. To make it through,
the team will almost certainly need to win the last two
international chances they have: The first is tonight at 18h30,
at home in Sapiac, facing the English Worcester and the

BRAMPTON RFC PLACES 3 ON NATIONAL LONG LIST
9 January 08
Congratulations
to Brampton RFC's Ryan Smith, Aaron Abrams and Jordan
Wilson-Ross for their inclusion on the National Senior Men's Team Long
list. This list allows current and potential members of the Canadian
Senior Men's team an idea of where they rate among players at their own
position.
Based on a number of measurements, the list
provides a depth chart at each position from which selectors and coaches
can create long term and short term plans for the various teams run by
Rugby Canada.
This list is revised quarterly, and in May, prior to the start of the
Barclays Churchill Cup, the next list will be made public.

RYAN SMITH AND MONTAUBAN READY FOR WORCESTER
8th January 2008
Montauban host
star-studded Worcester Warriors at Stade de Sapiac on Friday
night with Brampton RFC and Canadian international centre Ryan Smith
confident they can make April's quarter-finals of the European
Challenge Cup.
Worcester Warriors have an eight-point lead over Montauban at the top
of Pool Two, but Smith is adamant the French club is still very
much in the last eight mix.
And with the five Pool winners and three best runners-up
qualifying for the last eight, Montauban could finish with 21
points.
