BRAMPTON WOMEN OPEN EXHIBITION SEASON IN MONTREAL        5th May 2008
 

In their first test of the season, the Brampton Women's team travelled to Montreal last weekend to play Saint-Anne- de-Bellevue Women’s team. The exhibition match was held on the field turf pitch at the Loyola campus of Concordia University, in cool, wet conditions. The Brampton women were part of a Brampton Beavers pre-season Club tour to Montreal, joining the Men’s Senior and Men’s U-21 squads. 

 

 

3 BRAMPTON WOMEN ACCLAIMED AS OUA ANNOUNCES ALL-STARS & MAJOR AWARD WINNERS

Brampton's
Jayne Cation was one of five Western University Mustangs to win provincial all-star selection. She joins Tanja Ness, Rachel Spearing, Kelly Russell and Theresa Van Straaten in picking up Ontario University Athletics (OUA) honours as part of the 2007 women's Rugby all-stars and major award winners announced 24th October 2007. .

Mustangs head coach Natascha Wesch, also a Brampton alumna, guided her team to an impressive 5-0 regular season run outscoring their opponents 272-8, and received the Coach-of-the-Year award. This is Wesch's third selection as coach-of-the-Year, after winning the award previously in 2004 and 1998.

 

In the Sheils division, Brampton's Paige Gregson joins Jayne Cation in making the All star team, while in the Russell division Brampton's Megan Boyles is selected.  MORE

 

BRAMPTON'S JANE KIRBY SELECTED TO CANADA UNDER 19 TEAM      12th October 2007
 

Brampton's Jane Kirby has been selected to represent Canada at the U 19 Women's National Team tour for 2008.

 

At present, Jane is playing hooker for the University of Guelph Gryphons, coached  by long-time National level player Colette MacAulay.

 

She has started most matches in her rookie year and she is enjoying the strong competition. Jane is continuing to develop her goal kicking skills, even as a hooker!  MORE

 

BRAMPTON's JANE KIRBY IN GUELPH ROUT OF QUEENS    2nd October 2007
 

Brampton's Jane Kirby was part of the University of Guelph Gryphons  big win last Saturday in OUA action. The defending OUA champion University of Guelph Gryphons (2-2) gave the Queen's University Golden Gaels (3-1) their first loss of the season by a score of 50-0. On Saturday afternoon in Kingston, the Gryphons put on a dazzling display of rugby in a dominating performance over the home side.

 

Jacey Murphy (Alliston, ON) led the Gryphons as she scored three tries against the Gaels. Michelle Joslin (Waterloo, ON) scored two tries in the game while Larrissa Chomyk (Barrie, ON), Jane Kirby (Brampton, ON) and Jen Cerullo (Toronto, ON) each added one try a piece. Gryphon Lianne Inglis (Burlington, ON) kicked five conversions in the match. MORE

BRAMPTON WOMEN DEFEAT AJAX by Brian Kelly              25th July 2007

 


 

The Brampton Beavers Women's team came out strong once again on the weekend's match against Ajax, winning the match by over 50 points. The team was also in pursuit of going over 0.500 for the first time this season. Brampton's players took it to a depleted and injured Ajax team and never let up. Even with the game cut short, the Beavers managed to pile up 10 tries against the Wanderers. Brampton showed great leadership in the backs as both Holly and Dar helped motivate a back line playing out of position for the most part. MORE

 

BRAMPTON WOMEN DEFEAT CALEDON CAVALIERS   by Darlene Downey     25th July 2007
 

Coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Lions, and having had a week off to reflect, collect their thoughts and prepare, Brampton’s Women’s team came out as a force to be reckoned with against the Caledon Cavaliers last Saturday 21st July 2007. The final score was a lopsided 26 - 0 victory for the Brampton Beavers.

 

Brampton dominated the first 40 minutes of the game, scoring 26 early points from good driving plays up front, with front row Sarah Myton having a fine game. Not to be outdone, the Brampton backs showed good offensive running too, with Sarah Jess and Vanessa standing out in the backs. MORE

 

DARLENE DOWNEY & JILL ZONNEVELD HELP RUGBY CANADA MAKE NCCP COACHING HISTORY: Women only NCCP Introduction to Competition Course    8th January 2007
 

History was made in Richmond Hill last weekend 26 –28th January 2007, when a women only Introduction to Competition course was held simultaneously with a Women’s only National Learning Facilitator workshop. Brampton's Darlene Downey was a coach candidate for the "Introduction to Competition" coaching course, while Jill Zonneveld was a Learning Facilitator.   MORE
